Effect of Prematurity and Temperament on the Mother-Infant Interaction

Abstract We evaluated the effect of prematurity and infant’s temperament on mother-infant behaviors in Face-to-Face Still-Face Paradigm (FFSF). The study included 75 mothers their infants (37 preterm 38 term) between three four months age (corrected for infants). responded to a perception scale infants’ dyads were observed structured condition FFSF Paradigm, divided into episodes, made it possible analyze of: Positive Social Orientation, Negative Orientation Self-comfort. averages recorded these categories analyzed Multivariate ANOVA (factors: temperament). Temperament had more maternal infant behaviors, suggesting that this factor may influence interaction. results can guide interventions with families.
